As the SFRD is an all-hazards department, charged with hazard mitigation for many situations that can happen in the Town, we respond to a number of hazardous conditions and situations. Below are some of these situations that we may respond to:
Odor Investigations
We respond to buildings when strange odors occur, as we have specialized meters that can detect certain harmful gases. We can also call for resources from the MA State Hazardous Materials Response Team to assist with this.
Gas Leaks
Gas leaks or odors of gas, whether they are propane or natural gas, are a true emergency. The SFRD responds to these calls regularly. Using specialized meters, and working with the appropriate utility company, we can attempt to determine the source and potentially isolate any leaks, rendering a building safe.
Water in Building/Basement
Through our mission to preserve property damage, the SFRD can help remove standing water from buildings to prevent further damage.
