Although there were many, many fires since the days of early settlement in the 1650s and many individuals who fought those fires, there was no officially established fire department in Sherborn until 1942.
The SFRD was established by a vote of Town Meeting on March 9th, 1942, when Town Meeting voted to accept Massachusetts General Law Chapter 48, §§ 42-44 Relative to the establishment of a Fire Department.
